Additions to the Website Maintenance Program

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

About a month ago Benson Communications installed Google Analytics on the U4 website. Google Analytics is an application that allows owners to look at and monitor the traffic that goes to their website. It has a lot of graphics, maps, and detail on each and every visitor. This is a tool we had installed on a few websites before now and it is giving U4 a very good understanding of what pages people are looking at and what they are not looking at. Not only do we get that snap shot; but we can now design around what they are clicking on. Google Analytics is used on many web pages around the world, and there is a good chance that of all the sites you visit on a daily basis employs this application. The data is very limited about the user, the most detail you can get about the user is basically where they are located at a city level, what browser they use, and screen resolution. The data provided mostly tells the webmasters what data is being looked at and maybe how to improve the data. Furthermore, this gives the site owners data like “are customers even viewing my website”. Many Web Development companies charge thousands of dollars for this integration. Benson includes Website Analytics with every website as a part of our Website Maintenance Program FOR FREE! Just another way Benson Communications is striving to serve our Website Maintenance Program Customers Better!

1. Flashy Screen savers, cool mouse pointers, and motion backgrounds. We’ve all seen them, and you have to admit their pretty cool. Unfortunately looks come with a price, namely performance. That software is constantly using system resources, and that means your going to notice a significant loss of speed. Also third party software can generate weird error messages. For instance, you update your Flash Player, next thing you know your computer is telling you it can’t find Flash.ocx. This is generated because in the update Flash changed the file from Flash.ocx to Flash9.ocx or something similar, but your software doesn’t know to look for the new file. So now does your third party software not work right, you also have a mysterious error message.

2. Computer slowing down? There is a continuing trend in the world of downloadable files that has been affecting, or even crippling, many of our clients’ systems – sadly even brand new computers. Recently we have seen many computers are inundated with the newest Root Kits, viruses, worms, and Trojan Horses that the internet has to offer. Some of these malicious files/programs are willingly downloaded through use of Peer-2-Peer (P2P), Bit Torrent, Pirate Bay, Gaming Services and “Limewire”. (I am sure you have heard/seen us talk about the AVG Antivirus Protections that we offer.) However, with Microsoft’s most recent updates, the minimum amount of RAM needed to run smoothly is 1Gb. Most computers that are more than 2-3 years old are not running that much. This can cause many slow downs and complications. If you are having such frustrations, bring it in and have us check it out. Don’t let your frustrations mount, it could be something so simple as a RAM upgrade! Our Computer Maintenance Program is built on keeping cost down.
