Recently, Syracuse celebrated a great Independence Day and Flotilla weekend as the lake seemed to burst back to life for the Summer of 2008. Everyday, the deep blue colored waters splash and ripple, calling the sea-longing spirit in all of us. The calming waters remind us each year that we should celebrate the vitality of our lake community and those who support it, not just during the summer time, but year round. It is with a sense of gratitude that we express special thanks to the fine organizations and businesses that make Syracuse the great town it is. Each one is an integral part of the puzzle that makes our town one of the best towns of America. Benson Communications is proud to be a part of that legacy.

Wow! The year is almost half gone. Can you believe it? There are many unbelievable things going on right now. For the first time in 100 years the Chicago Cubs have the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball. The price of a gallon of gas is over $4.00. It was one of the strangest winters, only to be followed by one of the coolest springs, all attributable to global warming. I remember in the 1970’s when we were headed toward the next ice age. One thing is certain; we should take care of the Earth. But isn’t that more of a function of taking care of your family and your neighbor? Could it be that the only thing that is really changing is the minds of those who get paid to think about such stuff and those wanting to cash in on the ensuing hysteria? You can be sure that we at Benson Communications are looking out for you.

May and June are the months for remembering those who have had the greatest influence in our lives. In May we celebrate the women who gave us life. So we want to wish all the mothers we serve a belated “Happy Mother’s Day.” We also have the joy of celebrating our fathers in June. So to all dads, we thank you for the life lessons and the time you were able to devote to us. Just to let you know, we turned out alright. Another important group for us to remember in May, are those who have served in our Armed Forces and who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. As James Grengs once said, “Freedon is never free…it costs us more than some are willing to pay.” So as we remember those who have given us life and liberty, let us celebrate their lives and always be grateful for them.

Now that Spring Training is over and Major League Baseball is in full swing, it is thrilling to see the Cubs back in action and (said with a whisper) in 1st place in the NL Central Division.  As a “die-hard, dyed in the wool Cub fan” who grew up in the center field bleachers at Wrigley Field this is the year that the “Northsiders” will take it all.  I know that this is the 2nd national anthem for Cub fans, but there is truly something different about this years team.  The same can be said about the Benson team.  Its talent runs deep and is always hitting one out of the park with our customer service and work product.  Although the guys may not make it to the World Series, they are definitely worthy of a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
